Instead he went with "The wife is just standing there quiet. I wonder if she can talk." This campaign...
Because in no way should a Presidential candidate belittle a veteran's final sacrifice for the sake of political points.
The real surprise is why no one on Trump's team said, "Sir, under no circumstances should you use his death as a bludgeon."
I'll have to talk to other vets before I can get any sort of pulse on veteran attitudes but I'd.certainly like to hear from the other veterans on the board.
Myself, I find it disgusting. Of course I was not going to vote Trump anyway, so I could well be biased ... but I think even if he were my candidate, I'd still find this angle of attack disgusting.
I'm a vet. I believe gold star families should be off limits to political insult from any side. If they want to come forward to speak on a political issue, that's fine. What they say can be criticized. But on a personal level, they should get a pass from being blasted by politicians in public.
I'm not saying this is a rational position, it is almost entirely based on my feelings and the reason part is hard to articulate. It provokes an instant gut reaction in me. I think a lot of vets feel the same way.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
