I do not know of any ocean that is infinite and solid. I have lived near the Atlantic and PacifIc (Been in boats upon both) and seem to remember them being liquid! That is why I was successfully able to travel in a boat.
Think of primitive man looking out over it's impassable vastness from land, forms rising and falling in a ceaseless dance. It's analogous.
