I've fought long and hard to keep this place going in the right direction. Up until recently, I feel I have done that. Sadly, despite my best efforts, I have ultimately failed. It's to do with principles I can't compromise on. Unfortunately this means I can no longer stand by the forum, and being here only makes me sad. Apparently there is something coming about this issue so I will say more about it then.
That's not at all a reflection on the wonderful membership here. I think of many of you as friends, and I've been honoured to have been part of the community. You're welcome to keep in contact with me by email or Skype, both [email protected].
If things ever change, I might return. But sadly it's not looking like that's ever going to happen. Thank you all, and goodbye
Sorry to hear this Rob, I liked you from the very start, never stopped.
I've got no clue what is going on behind the scenes, what the issues are, but I do have some questions for you and maybe others reading this. Don't feel obliged to respond.
I understand that you have principles that you have to live by, we all do (hopefully). That said, I'm not sure why you need to leave because you can't get others to agree to abide by your principles. Can't you just abdicate the throne and not leave the country (step down as a mod/remain in the forum)? Then your principles could be your own and remain in tact. You would no longer feel that you need to fight, except on your own personal level, for your own personal reasons and not for others. Maybe you can't stand by/with the directing/direction of admins/mods, but can't you stand by the forum as a whole? Still contribute, just on an individual basis? Would going back to being a member continue to compromise your principles?
I don't understand why you think you failed. Trying to make a change in a group, that does not get implemented, is not failure. No attempt at making a change would be the failure.
I'll try another slant. If you were in a political position and one of your proposed legislative bills were shoot down in committee, I can see you resigning. But would you stop being a member of the political party or stop voting?
Take some time and think about it. One word of advice, never say never. You don't know what the future may bring and how time may heal. By leaving, some of us may hurt, but you might be hurting yourself more.
I'm not going to plead with you to stay. I will, as always, wish you the best.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
