In my case, it was kind of an investment. I paid off their debts later on. But that I would have done in any case, since I had the means. Money never was that important to me. Well, now it is, since I don't have it anymore, but back then it wasn't.
So you returned something of value and/or substance. Never thought you didn't. Unless I'm wrong, I think I remember your act as a sacrifice for the benefit of your parents.
