I for one understood it as the point you were making. The priest being the more important counselor than the psychologist. Which I totally understand. For people being predisposed in that direction, they certainly are.
The point I was making was about at least having appreciation and respect (out of principle) for someone who gives up a lucrative career for one where he truly believes will bring great service to others.
And to clarify, counseling with a priest is not more important than counseling with a psychologist. It all the depends on the situation and what the person's needs are. For me, and for the situation I was in specifically, talking with a priest was more helpful. But if I had clinical depression, for example, I'm sure a psychologist/psychiatrist would be more appropriate. Ideally seeing both is best if you are a person of faith and spirituality is intertwined with your mental health.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
