True story: I didn't hear "Stairway to Heaven" until 1979.

Must be the same time when I first heard it. I wasn't into Led Zeppelin before and a school mate introduced me to the song.

Yeah, you know, we were talking about first remembered songs. That's certainly the Beatles. Not just Penny Lane but Yellow Submarine too, which I used to bawl at the top of my lungs without knowing the first thing about the lyrics. But being into music starts about the same time as in your case. In my memory Mark Bolen features very prominently on the radio of the early 70ies.
