I have saved up the cash to buy every car I've ever owned. It definitely takes some sacrifice and it's a terrible feeling spending so much money at once, but I'd rather not be tied down for years and years to come. Honestly, I don't buy into the whole concept of 'credit.' I've, realistically, never needed a credit card in my life... In the sense that I don't spend money that I don't currently have. Why would I?
This whole concept has become 'the American way.' If you tell people you bought your car with cash they act like you're a millionaire or something. No, ASSHOLE, manage your money correctly and don't spend money you don't have - a pretty simple concept. Tell people you don't want to own a home, that you'd rather rent an apartment. They'll be so quick to jump up and tell you how much extra money you're spending on renting.
Even PHONES are financed by most folks now days. People don't realize that you can buy an iPhone, yes for probably around $1000 including the case and everything, and go buy a Verizon pay as you go card for the month and pay like $60 a month for the same service people on contracts are paying $150+ for - just for the convenience of financing a phone.
