Supporting an asshole is subjective. I guess I can be subjective and say that I didn't support the other asshole.
No, it's not done, but we should be slowly dismantling it and ensuring that the workers are looked after. It's not the fault of the workers that their industry uses up natural resources that aren't coming back and pollutes the environment, so I don't see why they should just be tossed aside, but then again, Clinton didn't ever suggest that.
Don't pretend that lobbying isn't a thing in this country, because you know the real reason those energy sources aren't taking off very well is due to lobbying from the fossil fuels lobby. Besides, private solar companies are doing great at the moment, and the main reason nuclear energy isn't moving forward is the scare tactics that unfortunately come mainly from environmentalists (see, I'm not saying environmentalists are correct on everything).
I'm not opposed to developing other forms of energy sources, but right now our homes and our industries, have been, for a long time now, dependent on fossil fuels. So, before we can start slowly dismantling our fossil fuel industry we need to fire it back up, mining and drilling, and then continue the process of developing the other forms of energy, wind, solar, nuclear, to make them practical, safe, and affordable. Once that technology is perfected, then start the weaning off of fossil fuels and begin to make the transition to those other forms of energy. We just can't start dismantling the fossil fuel industry, even slowly, until we have everything in place to start the transition over to alternative sources, making it safe, affordable, and jobs in that industry.
I'm not pretending at all that there aren't lobbying efforts going on by the fossil fuel industry. In fact, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't. I just don't think we're in a position to make that transition just yet, meaning our homes and our industries. Our whole nation is driven and dependent on fossil fuels right now. I do, however, see great potential for nuclear energy, just so long as we can all be assured that the technology is to the point where it can be guaranteed to be safe.
