I agree it's considered way too taboo. I think it can be both special and non-special. It's not the sex itself that's special, it's who you do it with. Just like any other activity with someone you care about. But the point is... sex doesn't have to be with someone you care about.
I'd love casual sex if offered. But personally I'm done seeking it out because having had a meaningful relationship... looking for anything else feels meaningless to me. Sure, meaningless fun is still fun but I do find meaningful fun more fun. When I want meaningless fun it's much easier for me to just watch some porn than go seeking sex with people who are bound to say "no" 99% of the time just for a bit of meaningless fun which I could have had many times over already with porn. Sex is much better than porn but in my experience... seeking it out isn't worth the effort, for me personally, unless I'm going to get something more meaningful out of it. The amount of rejections I get is exhausting... especially after what I'm really looking for is a relationship and if I want some meaningless fun, I'll stick to porn, as sub-par as that is it's easier. One day I hope to have the best of both worlds by having an online relationship that perhaps one day could become offline. It wouldn't be necessary. I like my fun online more than offline. So far. I've never had any good RL sex. It has all been very vanilla--without even any oral which is my favorite!--and that's boring as fuck. My first RL offline sexual experience was more disappointing than awkward. I prefer porn to that dullness. I'd much rather watch someone eat my favorite pizza than eat some poor quality overdone pizza myself that tasted like shit. It's true that sex is like pizza--even when it's not great it's still pretty fucking good. But sometimes, like all cooked food, it can be done really badly and be boring as fuck.
