Kind of macabre that we find ourselvs in this situation, really. We're sitting here discussing our bigoted president and the people who -made- him president, worrying about their feelings.
Well, it isn't their feelings I'd worry about............
I haven't been worried about the sensitivities of bigoted racists, I've been worried about the left making the same mistake the right made after the 2012 election, which helped bring us to this point. The practical republicans autopsied the election and figured out what they did wrong and how they could correct it; but didn't realize their base wouldn't go along with it, and would in fact double down.
The Democrats could field a wonderful candidate with the potential to draw votes from people who held their noses to vote for Trump, only to see their candidate undermined by millions of angry Democrats who don't actually want former Trump voters to vote Democrat, ironically handing the White House back to Pence (who I expect will be president by 2020).
Resisting the regime involves shielding the people targeted by it. It also involves winning the next two elections. Staying the course when you're losing is stupid; it's time for the Dems to go back to what works for them: a charismatic and qualified candidate with a unifying message; but I wonder if that can succeed if too many of that candidate's supposed supporters send the message that they prefer disunity, and reconciliation is right out.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
