Truthfully, I'm pretty sure my symptoms started a mere week after conception. I didn't know I was pregnant and was wondering why I felt so "off". I found out I was pregnant a week after that because I was supposed to have surgery so I had to do a routine pregnancy test before going into the operating room. Total surprise that it came back positive. It was so early, I hadn't even missed a period yet. After that, my symptoms just got worse and worse.
As you know, I was very very sick the whole time and now my specialist suspects that the problems with the baby were the reason why I felt so sick. It was also the reason why I developed preeclampsia and gained a whole ton of weight while pregnant (heaven knows I was too sick to eat much). Crazy to think they were all connected like that... like our bodies can detect problems with our babies from so early on.
That's crazy, CL. Knowing what they know now about the specific problem you and your baby had, is there anything that can be done preventatively for the next time around? Or is it a 'you just have wait and see' kind of medical issue?
I had symptoms before I missed my period as well. The first time it was the insanely heightened sense of smell, to the point of being almost unbearable. The second time was a sudden, constant need to pee. I think when you're trying to conceive there is a heightened awareness to every little weird thing you feel inside your body!
Unfortunately they were unable to pin point a diagnoses for the baby. But my doctor suspects it was an unknown genetic syndrome of some sort. Too rare to have been picked up by the genetic testing that was done on him.
Since it was probably a gene defect, there's nothing that can be done to prevent it from happening again in the future, and the chance of reoccurrence is unknown.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
