I think spirituality is really experientiality-- the search for new experiences, the attempt to touch parts of your mind you might not have access to. It's not without merit in that sense-- certainly if you meditate a lot, if you do various rituals, if you focus the mind on certain ideas, you will have the chance to have many experiences you might not have.
It's when you start making attributions of fact-- "I went into Bob's body and began the spiritual battle that will eventually cure his cancer"-- that it must be utterly condemned.
