I think the key is... most people don't want to be sober... in the sense that I think many people enjoy having a few drinks on the weekend. But the idea here is sort of a cost benefit analysis. What are you getting out of drinking/using vs what is it costing you...?
Sure, shooting heroin into my arm felt awesome for two years if I'm being completely honest. But is it worth the withdrawal? Is it worth the feeling of never having money? Is it worth the feeling of wanting to steal, even from people I love? Is it worth the feeling I had when I was kicked out of my house and told I had to sleep on the street? No.
The biggest question I would pose to someone on the fence... Is it worth it?
... and when you're on the fence, can you simply do "one or two"?
