Whatevs, I think what he meant by the first quote you posted is that we should try to find common ground to work together for a better world despite our differences. If we focus on our differences and refuse to even communicate, thats where the "house" falls apart. That's what I got from it anyway.
Also, I take this to be a general lesson for the every day life and the everyday people around us. Obviously I don't think the extreme example would apply, like trying to be friends with isis or something lol. But the vast majority of us don't come into contact with terrorists and rapists and murderers on a daily basis, and this message was meant for us average folks. Personally I feel I am very much able to apply this to my own everyday life since I've never been in any sort of extreme situation.
