Well this is interesting.

I had always heard that the Polish invented the toilet seat but the British improved on the design by adding the hole.

You must understand that I came of age in the 80s with the series of "Totally Tasteless Jokes" books by Blanche Knott.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
