I think gods are an invention of the mind. The only diffrence between my view and yours is that I think that invention has taken on a life of its own. Once belived in, a thing becomes real in some shape or form. The more belife, the more powerful the entity.
However, I think there is a source from which we all spring. That is the true god. The one pre-dating the invented gods. It is debatable if that source god is the Christian god or not, or even if that source god has a conciousness.
