My favourite anecdote of the Dewey-Truman election:
On election night of 1948, with all indicators showing in his favour, Thomas Dewey asked his wife "Say, Frances, how does it feel to be sleeping with the next president of the United States?"
She replied, "It's a great honour and frankly, I'm looking forward to it!"
Next morning, over a particularly quiet breakfast, she asked "Well, Tom, am I going to Washington or is Frank coming here?"
