There has always been a bigger market for self-asteem through ignorance than there is for capacity to acquire knowledge.
Granted, self-esteem through ignorance is free and easily acquired, thus your statement is accurate.
However, the generalization of rabble rousing being labeled as a disgusting thing may be a tad unfair to the term. One could easily argue that rabble rousing is not only a good thing, but a necessity in respect to acquiring rights for the masses, overthrowing corrupt governments and/or establishing one's own independence.
