Big Grin

The ability of the uneducated to become convinced that something which one does not know nevertheless makes once very special in the grand scheme of all things is the reason why rabble rousing in all its most disgusting forms, including religion and patroitism, works.

There has always been a bigger market for self-asteem through ignorance than there is for capacity to acquire knowledge.

Granted, self-esteem through ignorance is free and easily acquired, thus your statement is accurate.

However, the generalization of rabble rousing being labeled as a disgusting thing may be a tad unfair to the term. One could easily argue that rabble rousing is not only a good thing, but a necessity in respect to acquiring rights for the masses, overthrowing corrupt governments and/or establishing one's own independence.

I don't think it's so unbelievable... the way it's forced on people in school, it has a habit of making us question why we care. Many come to the conclusion that they don't... memorize the answers for the test... and then forget within the month.

It's simply not useful information to retain. I don't know it myself out of complete apathy regarding it. Didn't even bother to read it in the OP, if it was there.

One could just as easily argue that reckless drunk driving is a good thing in that one could run over a lot of bad guys as a result, and may even be a necessity in respect to nipping in the bud some some dude who would otherwise be destined to unleash genetically engineered world-ending plagues upon humanity.
