Hilary beat him plenty. She just couldn't beat the Republitraitors disenfranchising 10,000,000+ US citizens because of the colour of their skins or the flavour of their beliefs.
She knew well enough that the popular vote doesn't carry you to the white house. Putting aside the debate on how wrong that is, she knew the stakes, and failed.
