Dr Mark Wainberg died yesterday at 71 years  swimming off the coast of Florida . The Montreal born doctor was a pioneer  in the field of  HIV research. In particular his work on anti viral drug 3TC and Lamivudine a drug used in the treatment of infections caused by HIV . He also identified many drug resistant mutation of the HIV virus . He was strong advocate for gay victims of the dieses .And help organize the 13th international conference on Aids in south Africa ground zero for the epidemic . The world has lost a hero
