Good relations with Russia aren't unequivocally good or bad ... but Putin's game seems clearly to be attempting to wedge NATO apart. I'd look on any offer of theirs as a baited hook unless shown otherwise.

What's the upside to having worse relations to Russia?

Nato was made as a reaction to the Soviet Union, which doesn't even exist anymore.

1) And the US was formed in protest to the Crown controlling our policies. Should we disband?

2) Refusing Russian seduction would certainly allow the only power on the continent able to resist Russia to remain intact ... while giving into it would greatly weaken the alliance militarily and psychologically.
