We could talk about this until we're blue in the face, won't matter..hehehe. Carlisle, it is just a book, one you have tremendous faith in, sure, but a book nonetheless. At the end of the day, making the claim that the bible is anything other than a book opens the christian concept of god to criticism. Needless criticism, since god (if you choose to believe he exists) would exist if the bible did not. It is a story about peoples beliefs. Some of these beliefs they held before christianity or even judaism were concepts of god. There are many christians who do not believe the bible to be inerrant, or divinely inspired...and whatever disagreement that you or I may have with them on their beliefs, the fact remains that they feel very christian. Requiring that the bible be something more than a story, I think, is unfair to those who believed, and perhaps unfair to those who still believe. It saddles them with the job of "defending the indefensible". Why point to a book for confirmation...when all one needs is faith?
