These people reach, we've all heard it before, someone hearing a criticism of religion and conflating the fuck out of it to think you hate people who are religious and even want them dead.
This is especially (but not exclusively) a massive problem with discussions around Islam. You absolutely cannot make a legitimate criticism of the ideology or politicisation of Islam without someone, whether it's a practitioner or a white knight caping for Islam, accusing you of "painting with a broad brush" at best or wanting "genocide of Muslims" at worst.
And don't get me wrong, there are some people who genuinely do hate religious people, or hate people with a different religion to their own. That exists, we've all seen it, and it's ignorant. That still doesn't mean there aren't legitimate criticisms of religion, and yes you can walk that line of criticising religion and strongly disliking it without demonising individual people who follow it.
This fellow atheist was FALSELY accusing me of demonizing every religious person in the world. He was flat out lying and like I said, he has known me for 8 years and has himself blasphemed religion too. This really had nothing to do with my cussing or blasphemy and everything about his personal beef with me after our falling out.

Lying for jesus is one of their oldest tactics. It comes naturally when the whole story is a lie to begin with.
Actually this was a long time fellow atheist I have known of on another website. It merely amounts to a personal beef he has had with me for those 8 years.
I do blaspheme religion and even cuss people out. But no, I do not think every single individual is evil who holds a religious belief, even if I think the concept of religion itself is divisive. But an especially BIG NO to any claim of genocide aimed at any group, that is just sick regardless.
