One of my hobbies is creating microcosms (little ecosystems in a jar basically). A few years ago all the plants in what I foolishly hoped would be a functioning ocean ecosystem died, but when I analyzed the water with a microscope I found this protozoa and took a picture of it:
It's not the coolest micro-organism in the world but I grew it myself so it was pretty exciting to find.
The next picture isn't mine, but one of the coolest things I've ever seen is magnified pollen:
No wonder this stuff causes allergies!
