What do you want to bet that those $40 hats are made in near-slave-labor conditions in southeast Asia for about a dollar a pop?

You're high-balling the cost there a bit. More like 20c for labour and about another 30c for materials.

Of course, remember overhead, the cost of keeping the factory itself, would have to be involved in the cost. Granted, I can't be sure it would add up to 50 cents per cap, and without access to one of the financial statements for the sweatshops involved, I wouldn't know, but still, there's more to manufacturing cost than labor and parts.
