It’s termed meta-hypocrisy. People will point out the flaws of others in an effort to hide or mask the same flaws, feelings, and or actions that they see in themselves. As a result, they are often nearly incapable of explaining the facts behind their feelings because the basis of their statements/feelings is merely a perception to assist in their own personal comfort. It’s also a sign of personal insecurities and the actions are used either consciously or subconsciously as a coping mechanism.
It's a psychological issue.
