Yesterday was a crazy day at the retail place where I work: we were understaffed, but the associates pulled together (some of them stayed past their scheduled hours) and did a superb job; they epitomized teamwork and excellence on that day. Thus, in order to acknowledge what they had done, I told them how much that I appreciated their efforts and hard work over the speaker system (we use this system to make various store-wide announcements or whatever).
Now, I was concerned that my announcement came off as fake or forced. However, after collecting the wallets for the closing banks, an associate, who is very intelligent and highly professional, commented that she thought I did a great job in calling out and recognizing our associates' efforts; she also remarked that, that is how you keep people happy and wanting to work. Thus, her acknowledgement meant a lot to me, as it let me know that my efforts were helpful to others .
Awesomely done!
Handing out cakes/cookies/candy/treats also helps
