I am motivated almost purely by my own self-interests, and practically speaking, my behavior is more or less par for the course with average people.
I can't decide if that's a testament to how well society has been designed to funnel us down a certain behavioral path, or if people are just good at selling themselves to themselves. Meaning, it's easy to talk themselves into the idea they are a good person, even though that status has somehow come with little to no personal cost.
