Because of religions a lot of people reject God outright.
Religions only cause trouble.
We had religious wars all over the places and ages.
There are religious open mind people who follow a very good way of life but on the other end we got people who become fanatical and cause trouble.
Spirituality is the real teaching of Shiva, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus and many other and spirituality is free from hell, hatred and divisions.
Unfortunately the priests twist this spirituality into religions which has nothing to do with the original teachings.

You are the guy who said that the Nestorians are those who spread Christianity in India, are you?
Well, well son, I did caught you red handed with this dogma, did I son?
And now as nothing happened you are popping up again with more garbage.

Before to make my comment I show you how Jesus put this question.
19. Unaided by the Spirit-breath, the work of intellection tends to solve the problems of the things we see, and nothing more.
20. The senses were ordained to bring into the mind mere pictures of the things that pass away; they do not deal with real things; they do not comprehend eternal law.
21. But man has something in his soul, a something that will tear the veil apart that he may see the world of real things.
22. We call this something, spirit consciousness; it sleeps in every soul, and cannot be awakened till the Holy Breath becomes a welcome guest.
23. This Holy Breath knocks at the door of every soul, but cannot enter in until the will of man throws wide the door.
24. There is no power in intellect to turn the key; philosophy and science both have toiled to get a glimpse behind the veil; but they have failed.
25. The secret spring that throws ajar the door of soul is touched by nothing else than purity in life, by prayer and holy thought.

It say.........cannot enter in until the will of man throws wide the door.........
You see?
Is all about opening.
How someone who is not interested in this opening can perceive God.
Isn't it a catch 22 situation?
On one hand atheists would like to get evidence but at the same time they keep the door shut so how can God
enter?
I guess you guy never thought about it, did you?
According to the 4th Succeeding Leader of the Navigating Captaincy of Mohammad, Imam Ali ibn Al-Hussain, Zainal Abideen (adornment of the worshipers), God doesn't cloack himself from people except their actions are for other than him.
And Quran has guarantee anyone who strives for God, God will guide them into his ways. And I know you can search and strive for God even if you don't know he exists, I at one point was unsure and didn't know the proofs for God, and I mean this through most of my childhood. I felt God was real but had no clarity, and at one point with all the science and darwanism felt extreme doubt.
You are right, you been hitting them with good reasoning Little Rik, I hope you find the path and door God has opened for humanity and believe in clear clarification from God and insights from him for humanity to reflect upon...at the end, you and I are no one compared to God, and no one has to listen to us.
God on the other hand, people should search for his words and guidance and should approach his holy book with the paradigm itself teaches and with reasoning and reflection, as well as help from those meant to manifest it's wonders and teach it's true interpretation.
Sure.
Holy books can be very useful for those seeking real knowledge as far as those words are not twisted in order to suit people interests like the caste of the priests have done in the past and still do in the present.
However the best way to seek knowledge is to open ourselves to all possibilities while leading a moral life.
As Buddha apparently said............When the student is ready, the teacher will appear..........so everybody can have the chance to learn and progress books or not books.
