"Republicunt": why use terms like this?

Barack and Hillary both said marriage was between a man and a woman in 2008.  Does that make everyone who voted for them bigots?  Did voting for them mean you were against gay marriage?

Obama supported gay marriage in 1996 .Clinton thou did not support gay marriage openly has done alot for the gay community before that . And consistently supported gay civil unions  ( and no bill was forced into passing DOMA ) .And only didn't go all the way because the chances of full marriage being granted to gays seemed slim  (yes opportunistic but not bigoted )  

Also there is a difference between voting for a candidate who has a light opposition to gay marriage but supports gay unions and has fought for gay rights and then updates there position  . And you yourself support gay marriage . And voting for a candidate who openly courts is supported and advocates and fills their staff with extremist homophobic bigots . And compares gay marriage to the apocalypse.
