I'm not sure what god has to do with grifty grifters grifting, except insomuch as it obviously forms a useful basis for their con. Nor can I understand why you think that -I- consider any church to be a showcase of saints. That;s certainly not any idea of mine...so it's difficult to see why I have a totally wrong idea that isn't my idea. Looks more like a pretext for you to babble about god, at me, a little bit more.
I would take issue with the notion that it's full of -recovering- addicts, though. It seems to me that it's a gaggle of addicts engaging in their mutual addiction, and getting worked over for it, like addicts do. Defending their supplier, like addicts do. Defending and denying their addiction......like addicts do.
I understand that it makes you feel real good. I even understand why we sometimes allow that feeling to compell us to act against our own best interests or the interests of others. I can only suggest that, if you've reached the point where that feelgood high is so effective at compelling you to act..and that this action manifests itself as giving your money to known con artists and assorted grifty dealers.....it might be time to put down the pipe. All the sob stories you've ever read about people driven to poverty and ruin by their scam "church" started out as well intentioned believers with money to spare. You, in describing yourself, and even your willingness to give money to what you consider to be a cult, indicate that you are exactly the type of person those cons target.
That's worth looking at, regardless of your belief in gods..and realizing that you've been conned doesn't -have- to threaten your faith. Frankly, starving these assholes and their churches of the funds and victims on which they survive would do alot to improve christendom, from anyone's point of view.
