I think it's better to look for purpose in oneself, in the present moment. That's where we actually live, after all.
That doesn't work for someone like OP. Note that he said, "I think that nobody, at least those who truly dream, ever see their dreams become real."
I guess I'm an anomaly, then -- the vast majority of my dreams line up with rather practical and possible things and regularly become real. The same things that prevent me from developing religious faith also prevent me from putting too much stock in flights of pure fancy.
