The spoken sound is just another in the myriad of ways we as intelligent creatures can use to communicate.
I don't find the notion of language special at all... in an evolutionary sense. It's just another way of communicating.
It all comes down to the complexity of the brain. The rest is just mechanics.
How do we know that whales aren't telling each other stories passed down from generation to generation?
