It was a much bigger deal for christians for all of recorded history except the past few decades, eh? They spent centuries trying to eradicate competing sects, and only stopped when they finally realized that it had cost them the world. It's almost as if they lost the faith, or decided that political power in this world was of greater concern than the true revealed word of the lord of all creation.
