What's that saying about missing the forest for the trees? Yeah, you're nitpicking, even after I emphasized that this wasn't the actual argument I was making there. Just move on.
Quote:No I don't believe that you can have white male privilege and not have the privilege a white man has.
You missed the key word "or". Consider rereading my post to see where you went wrong in your reading comprehension.
Quote:A white male has no set level of privilege, we're all different, there's a lot of us.
Then you don't accept the reality of white male privilege. And so I think, despite what you're arguing, you deny the reality of privilege as it is intended to mean in sociology.
I'm not missing the forest for the trees, I'm pointing out minor circular reasoning that would have been dropped several responses ago if it didn't keep on being brought up repetitively.
I'm assuming you don't believe white males have one set level of privilege if you believe Christian white males have more privilege than Muslim white males?
You're most likely right that I don't agree with any sort phrase using an adjective followed by the word privilege as used in sociology. It's not an outright disagreement of the whole idea, I just see flaws in the way people usually use these phrases and definitely lists made listing these privileges as they're usually very flawed.
You've already said "Muslim privilege" is not a legitimate sociology term yet we both agree Muslim privilege exists. If sociology as a way of thinking/topic dismisses one groups privilege as illegitimate but focuses on another groups then it seems to be bias and flawed anyway.
The white collar job you're talking about has been made up by your imagination, I don't know who's in charge or who conducts the interviews. In my job I have three supervisors, one atheist and two Muslim. They generally conduct the interviews and at the moment it's mainly Muslims who are being hired, possibly because a lot of Muslims live in the area where the main offices are, I don't think it's actually any bias on behalf of the supervisors because I know how many Muslims come for the job usually due to the area. As for the upper levels of the company, I think the CEO is Jewish female, at least culturally, I don't know her religious beliefs.
Me being called John, Paul, George or even Ringo wouldn't change anything that I can see.
I imagine if there's a job with a hardcore Christian who actually cares about Christian names hiring I imagine they'd very consciously pick out Christian names. In this case I'd probably be privileged, unless they had a conversation with me about Christianity then I'd be fucked.

(notice it doesn't matter if you're actually an atheist that passes for white, for example)
If the gender of the black muslim isn't specified and I get to choose then I'd choose black Muslim female. I predict statistically being female will be the biggest advantage to getting a shorter sentence for the same crime.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
