The flu is much, much more severe. The flu can be severe enough to kill small children or the elderly--or anyone else with a weaker immune system--without treatment but colds don't actually need treatment at all. I've had it only twice but I've had a cold thousands of times. Believe me, you would KNOW if you had the flu.
Many people complain about the flu and it's just a mild cold.

...And it's just a man cold lol. Which is usually even milder than a normal cold, lol. It usually means "I don't feel perfectly healthy and I don't wanna work today."
