11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
It occurs to me some who might think they are of God might nevertheless lie about God's ability to lie . . . .

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
