I think I've developed some degree of empathy, largely through watching films and reading books. The animal questions were hard to answer, mostly because I like them (particularly birds; when I mentioned the pigeon poisoning scene in my review of 24 Hour Party People, I pointed out that if they were giving Antibiotics to vultures, it would be unforgivable, but maybe giving pigeons rat poison was less so), but I'd prefer to keep them at a distance, at least for long stretches at a time. It can be hard to tell whether or not it's really worth it.
