I think it would probably be worse if when aliens landed...instead of killing us....they torched us mentally and/or physically - because that's how they feed, or recharge - and they did this in such a way that it lasted for a long long long long while indeed.
On the other hand they could actually turn up and be very friendly and helpful. Maybe invincible from our weapons because they're so advanced, so they wouldn't have to defend themselves. Maybe they recharge in the opposite way to the above example; maybe they feed by helping for example. Maybe it's because they're equivelent of DNA works in a slightly - even completely - different way. Maybe they come from another dimension for example.
Or they could land and something in-between could happen.
