Interestingly, cats are born with the instinct to chase what runs and hunt other animals..but not with the knowledge of the suffocating bite - cats kill, primarily, by crushing the larynx. Juxtapose this against the way that dogs kill..by goring, ripping, and exhaustion - which requires no specific learned skills.
That;s one of the reasons why cats from the kitty mill so often play with their food, there was no occasion for their mother to teach them what to do once they;ve caught the thing. Whereas you actually have to teach a dog -not- to tear the duck or the rabbit to shreds. Any dog that just so happens to have a soft mouth is the dog you want to breed from.
