That would be democracy at its worst, pandering to those whose interests can only be served to the detriment of the greater good.
Democracy at its best Involves confusing the base as to make the base believe what is good for the whole is actually good for the short term selfish interests of the base as well, which is false at least half the time.
The reason why republicans are successful is it managed to enlist the technique of democracy at it best, but not the goals of democracy at its best, to benefit itself in a way only democracy at its worst can.
Well the base wants them to focus on healthcare and guns.

We have crises with both issues.
