Not sure how much was actually solved, but the fact that he even got Kim Jong-un is great. I wish he wasn't a racially insensitive, misogynistic douche. He might've actually been an overall great leader. Too bad.
The summit was an accomplishment, for sure. I have serious issues with some of the particulars of how it was handled, however.
Also however, I'll note that damn near everything else he's done has been pretty shitty, with even shittier undertones, and further, I note that a broken clock is right twice a day - so let's see how it turns out. I expect given North Korea's history that not much will come of it. That's not even a slam against Trump so much as it is against NK.
Even if Kim Jong-un is serious about the talks, he ought to be really skeptical of the Trump administration after pulling out of the agreement with Iran and elsewhere. At the moment, the administration can't be trusted, and the rest of the world knows it.
The summit is an accomplishment in what sense? It allowed trump to act as if he diffused the tension he created?
North Korea was always going to get a nuclear missile. There was no way to stop them short of war. Once they get it they will never give it up. There is no way to deprive them of these without war. Once they have nuclearr missile the survival of their regime is considerably more secure and they no longer need to stoke a permanent sense of high tension as routine operating percerdure. They would only do so when they have other specific things they wish to extort. Again nothing changed.
They only thing trump accomplished is to stab our ally in the back with unilateral change in the US defence posture, while affecting abosiluty zero change from the natural trajectory of North Korean behavior. But he did get Kim a nice vacation to Singapore and a stay in a real world class Hotel he otherwise would never have been able to make without trump, while also giving himself an immeasurable raise in his own legitimacy and credibility by being photographed on more equal and friendly terms with the POTUS than the leader of the world’s 6 more developed democracies had.
