It's pretty straightforward. Unix based systems use different whitespace characters (the invisible ones like new line, tab, etc) Doesn't usually cause a problem until time comes to copy and paste. Or some other rather specialised circumstances not relevant here.
Right... does that also count for Linux? I do use that occasionally, but I can't say I've ever seen this problem. So it's a bit of a WIFOM for me whether this is deliberate trolling or something like you suggest, but either way, he's not responding to advice, so it seems a waste of time.
