You do remember he said he’s from Iran, right? The country where every time they try to make things more equitable, it backfires spectacularly, from 1953 to 1979 to 2009?

Doesn't mean they should stop trying.

But it does mean that Khameini is powerful and ruthless enough to stop any meaningful attempt at reform. Just look at the Green Revolution; Mousavi ran on a campaign of reform, and when it became clear he could win, they rigged the ballots. When the people called bullshit and protested, the government arrested them and nothing changed.

I’ve heard it was Einstein who said that “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Or maybe it was Rita Mae Brown, but whoever said it, it’s certainly relevant.
