What these people are actually saying is ""I'm too ignarant,too unimaginative or too stupid to think of anything else, therefore aliens/god did it"

Actually, Pad, what I think they are saying is: "there are plenty of people out there who are so fucking stupid that I can put anything I like into a book and sell it to them."

Religion works pretty much the same way.
