One can preferentially force source mode. In "User CP" go to "edit Options" and tick "Put the editor in source mode by default".
Weirdly, as a programmer, I don't have it ticked myself, too many wasted hours on UI considerations, I guess.
Yes, this! So much this! TTA defaulted to source code, and I taught myself most all of the source code shortcuts; and I still prefer to write up and format my posts in source before I preview them. It helps me keep things organized whenever I'd do a multi point line-by-line discretion of a post, and I needed to keep proper track of the formatting of quote brackets, or else the entire post would disappear. I'm a real stickler for legible formatting, and always take the time to space things out for easy reading.
