Not unexpected. Baseball players hit foul balls into their feet or legs on a regular basis. If they get up and shake it off that's fine. If they are limping around and have to leave the game you wait for the inevitable announcement of the results of the x-rays. But sometimes the fracture is not detected right away for reasons that only a radiologist could probably explain. Those guys end up on the disabled list for quite a while. Eventually they do a CAT scan and find the fracture. Then the issue becomes if it is a displaced or non displaced fracture. If displaced, have the surgery or it will cause you problems in 10-15 years.
