ONE of my pet hates ANYWHERE is fucking name tags.
At work some genius in the sheltered workshop (SHQ) thought it would it would be just dandy if we ALL had to wear name tags, with first name only. So the genius got somebody to write a memo for him- and we all got name tags.--That meant some no necked,mono-browed neanderthal dragging its knuckles in from the street could address one with impertinent familiarity.
For some strange reason I kept losing mine or accidently leaving it at home.Took them about 3 months to give up trying to make me wear it, although I never once refused.
Our brand-new-broom-young- managers couldn't cope with intractable old pricks like me. So they gave us a lot of money and we all went away, 12 of us. I managed to retire four years earlier than I had planned, at age 51. I was so happy I damn near took a dump on the manager's desk.
Another genius,in Canberra thought it would be great if we all wore uniforms. He was sure we would be just thrilled to do so and pay for them ourselves. I declined. Take- up rate was about 10%; most of management and slimy suck-ups.
