No. A tree is not a metaphor in here also; this is the original verse:

When you "kindle" something using a "tree"; then you used the "tree" as a source of fuel.
Ancient people knew that, and obviously there was many ancient sources for fire including wood from trees or oil from trees (like the one mentioned in this verse) and also "coal"; also "stone", even "people".
